Thank You Councilmember Jan Anderson
The Isle of Palms Chamber of Commerce wants to send a special thank you to councilmember Jan Anderson for her continued commitment to Isle of Palms and her public service. She is an asset to this community and we are glad to have her on council for two more years.
A City Planner and Transportation Engineer by trade, Jan saw an opportunity to use her expertise to benefit her small island community that was suffering from traffic and parking issues. So she successfully ran for city council after serving on the IOP Water and Sewer Commission.
Travel and traffic on Isle of Palms
As a council member, Jan has found multiple ways to improve travel on the island, such as:
- Suggesting changes to the signal timing at Rifle Range Road that improved traffic flow
- Advocated the City add paramedics to the Fire Department that greatly reduced response time for emergencies on the island
- Continues to advocate for the restriping of the connector leaving the island to further improve response times
Ever present at Isle of Palms events, Jan enjoys participating in Exchange Club dinners, island events, and holiday festivals and parades. She also makes herself available by phone and email to any IOP resident who has an idea, question or concern.
MLK Celebration Reception
On March 28th, 2023, the Isle of Palms City Council voted unanimously to participate in a new event scheduled for January 2024. Jan brought up the idea for the city to co-sponsor a reception for VIP participants of the Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration to be held in the greater Charleston area.
This is a new event for MLK observance in the low country. Jan and the city council hope that it will turn into a week-long celebration that will bring visitors and participants to the island during the slowest time for tourism. Councilmember Anderson says:
“This event is a great example of how the island can come together in support of a common goal of creating a family friendly environment.”
Two more years
Jan’s plan for her final two years on council (and more if the community would like her to run again) is to continue to work on traffic and parking issues on the island. She also plans to tackle flooding and drainage issues.
Thank you, Jan, for your dedication to the Isle of Palms community!
